Awareness Session on Substance Abuse

Students gained valuable insights into substance abuse prevention, its impact on health, and the importance of early awareness.

An awareness session on substance abuse was organized by the Youth Red Cross (YRC) and the Institutional Counselling Cell of Niramaya College of Allied Health Sciences on 27th February 2026 at 3:00 PM in the Seminar Hall, SMVITM, Bantakal.

The programme was conducted in the presence of Mrs. Roshni Rodrigues, Principal, NCON, and Mr. Naveen Chandra, Vice Principal of NCAHS. Students from nursing and allied health sciences actively participated in the session.

The event was hosted by Ms. Shreya, a first-year nursing student. The resource person for the session was Dr. Sunil, Psychiatrist and Medical Officer from Dr. A.V. Baliga Memorial Hospital, who was warmly welcomed and honoured with a bouquet as a token of appreciation.

Dr. Sunil delivered an informative and insightful session focusing on the causes, harmful effects, prevention, and management of substance abuse. He emphasized the importance of mental health awareness, adopting healthy lifestyle choices, and the role of students in spreading awareness within society.

The session highlighted the serious consequences of substance abuse and encouraged students to lead a drug-free life. The talk also helped participants understand how early awareness and preventive measures can contribute to a healthier community.

The programme concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Ms. Rashmi, a student from the Department of Anesthesia & Operating Theatre Technology, who expressed gratitude to the resource person, dignitaries, organizers, and students for making the event successful.

The session proved to be highly educational and created significant awareness among students regarding the dangers of substance abuse. It reinforced the importance of mental well-being and adopting a healthy, drug-free lifestyle.

The awareness session was impactful and well-received by all participants. It successfully achieved its objective of educating students and promoting awareness about substance abuse prevention and healthy living.
